Pick an emoji and a colour. Everyone you chat with sees it.

Photos are checked automatically before anyone sees them. No nudity, no kids, nothing you wouldn't show a stranger.

Never anything closer than your city.

Only for this: we never share it and never put messages in emails.

People are online now. Chat hour: every night at 9 pm ET. 18+ only. By starting you agree to the Terms and Rules.

Bright dots: online now. Faint dots: somebody was here today. Drag to spin, tap a bright dot to say hi.

Question of the day

If your pet could talk, what’s the first thing it would complain about?

How it works

  1. 1. Say hi

Tap Start talking. We find somebody near you first, then look further if nobody's around.

  2. 2. Save who you click with

If you both tap Save, you become friends. Message each other here any time.

  3. 3. Not a match? Next

One tap and you're talking to somebody new. Report and Block are always one tap away.

Local when you want it. Global when you don't.

Most chat sites throw you at a random stranger on the other side of the planet. We look close to home first, so you can talk to somebody who knows your weather, your teams and your late-night food spots. Want the whole world instead? Pick Anywhere.

  • You choose what people see of where you are: your country, your province or state, or your city. Never anything closer.
  • No sign-up, no email, no phone number needed to chat.
  • Chats aren't stored. Only messages between saved friends are kept, so you can read them later.

Questions people ask

Is Always Somebody free?

Yes. Text and voice chat are free, with nothing to download and no sign-up.

Do I need an account?

No. There's no email, phone number or password. Your browser remembers you with a random code so your saved friends stay with you on that browser.

Who will I talk to?

One real person at a time, aged 18 or over. We look near you first: your area, then your province or state, then your country, then the world. Pick Anywhere to go global straight away. How it works in Canada.

Is it an Omegle alternative?

Yes. Omegle closed in November 2023. Always Somebody keeps one-on-one chat with strangers and adds near-you-first matching, saving the people you click with, and reports that keep bad actors away. What's different.

Are my chats saved?

Chats with strangers aren't stored and disappear when the chat ends. Only messages between people who saved each other are kept, for up to 90 days.

Is it safe?

People see your province or state and country, or just your country, or your city if you choose. Never your street or exact spot. Next ends a chat instantly, Block means you never meet that person again, and when several people report someone they are kept apart from everyone else and then paused. Tips for talking to strangers safely.

What if nobody is online?

You can chat with Sunny, our AI, while you wait. Sunny is always labelled as an AI, and you stay in line until a real person is free.
