Talk to strangers online, safely
Sometimes you want to talk to somebody who doesn't already know you. A stranger can be the easiest person to be honest with, or just good company on a slow evening. Here's how Always Somebody works, and how to keep it a good experience.
How it works
- Tap Start talking. You don't need an account.
- We match you with one real person, near you first, then further away if nobody is close. Pick Anywhere to meet the whole world.
- Say hi, or use the icebreaker question if you're not sure how to start.
- Tap Next any time to meet somebody new.
- Tap Save if you click with someone. If they save you too, you can message each other later.
Staying safe with strangers
- Stay anonymous. Everyone shows up as "Somebody". Don't share your full name, address, school or workplace with someone you just met.
- Never send money. Not for gift cards, crypto or an emergency, whatever the story.
- Be careful with links. We don't make links clickable, on purpose.
- Leave whenever you like. Next ends a chat instantly. Block makes sure you never meet that person again.
- Report what's wrong. When several different people report someone, they get kept apart from everyone else and then paused.
The full list is on the help and safety page, along with numbers to call if you need to talk to someone right now.
Who you'll meet
Always Somebody is for adults, 18 and over. The site is new and still growing, so quieter hours happen. When nobody is free you can chat with Sunny, our AI, while you wait. Sunny is always labelled as an AI, and you stay in line for a real person.
What it costs
Text chat is free. There's nothing to download and nothing to sign up for.
