Random text chat with strangers, no camera
Random chat used to mean a webcam and a lottery of what you'd see when it connected. Always Somebody is the text version: one random real person, a conversation, and a Next button. Voice if you both want it. Never video.
What "random" means here
- One real person at a time. Tap Start talking and you are paired with whoever is free. No rooms, no list of profiles to pick from, no swiping.
- Random, but not pointless. We look near you first, then wider, and if you add a few interests we try to find somebody who likes the same things. You can switch that off with Anywhere and take the whole world.
- Next, instantly. Not clicking? Tap Next and you're with somebody new before you've finished sighing.
- No bots pretending to be people. The only non-human here is Sunny, who keeps you company when nobody is free and is always labelled as an AI.
Text first, voice only if you both say yes
Every chat starts as text. If it's going well, either of you can ask for voice; the call only starts when the other person agrees, and nobody sees your IP address. There is no video, and there never will be: it's the part of random chat that made people stop using it.
Any language
Random means the other person may write in Spanish, Hindi or Tagalog. That's fine. Every message is translated as it is sent, so you read them in your language and they read you in theirs. A random chat with the whole world is actually possible here, which it wasn't on the old sites.
When a random chat turns out to be a good one
Tap Save. If the other person saves you too, you are friends: the chat is kept in your Friends list and you can message each other later, even when one of you is offline. On the old random-chat sites a good conversation vanished the moment someone hit Next. Here it only vanishes if you both let it.
No account, nothing stored
There is no sign-up. You are "Somebody" to the people you meet. Chats with strangers aren't stored and disappear when the chat ends, unless you both tap Save. The privacy policy says exactly what is kept and for how long.
Staying safe in a random chat
Keep your full name, address, school and workplace to yourself. Never send money to someone you met in a chat, whatever the story. Links aren't clickable here, on purpose. Block means you never meet that person again; Report is one tap, and reports from several different people keep somebody away from everyone. Always Somebody is for adults, 18 and over.
