Someone to talk to, right now
It's late, or it's just one of those days, and you want to talk to somebody who isn't already in your life. Always Somebody gives you a real person in seconds, by text, with nobody knowing who you are. Here is exactly what you get, what you don't, and when you should call somebody else instead.
If you are in danger or thinking about hurting yourself
Please don't wait for a stranger on a chat site. Call your local emergency number. In the United States and Canada you can call or text 988 any hour. In the United Kingdom and Ireland, Samaritans answer on 116 123. Our help page lists more lines by country. People here will listen, but they are not trained for this and can't come to you.
What you get here
- A real person, not a feed. Tap Start talking and we match you with one human being for a one-on-one text chat. Nothing to scroll, nothing to post, nobody watching.
- Nobody knows who you are. Everyone appears as "Somebody". No account, no email, no phone number. You can walk away at any moment and never be found again.
- Somebody near you first. We look for a person in your area, then your province or state, then your country, then the world. Someone in your time zone is awake when you are and gets what a Tuesday night in your city feels like. Prefer the whole world? Choose Anywhere.
- Any language. Every message is translated as it is sent. If the person who happens to be free right now writes Portuguese, you still read it in English and they read your reply in Portuguese.
- It's free. No trial, no premium tier, no ads between messages.
How the first minute goes
- Tap Start talking. There is nothing to fill in.
- Within seconds you are in a chat with a real person. An icebreaker question is ready if you don't know how to begin, and there is a new question of the day every day.
- Talk. If it isn't working, tap Next and meet somebody else straight away.
- If you click with someone, tap Save. If they save you too, you are friends and can message each other later, even when one of you is offline. A good conversation doesn't have to end when the chat does.
What if nobody is free?
Always Somebody is new and some hours are quiet. If nobody is available after a few seconds you can talk with Sunny while you wait. Sunny is an AI and is always labelled as one, so you never wonder. You stay in line, and the moment a real person is free we switch you over.
Awake at 3 am?
The globe on the home page shows where people are right now: green dots are people online this minute, red dots are areas where somebody was around this month. When your own city is asleep, spin the globe to where it's afternoon and tap a green dot. Or tap a red dot and leave a hello for the next person from there; they get it when they come back.
Talking to a stranger, safely
Don't give your full name, address, workplace or school to someone you met a minute ago. Never send money, whatever the story. Links in chat are deliberately not clickable. If somebody makes you uncomfortable, Next ends the chat instantly and Block means you never meet them again. Report is one tap, and reports from several different people keep that person away from everyone. Always Somebody is for adults, 18 and over.
