Chat with people in Vancouver
Rainy evening, nothing on? Always Somebody pairs you with one real person at a time, and it looks around the Lower Mainland first. Somebody who also knows what the Lions Gate is like at rush hour.
Who counts as "near"
The first search reaches about 100 km from you. From downtown that covers Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, Coquitlam, the North Shore, Langley, Abbotsford and Squamish, and it even crosses the border to Bellingham, so now and then "near you" is somebody in Washington State.
If nobody that close is free, the search widens to the rest of British Columbia (or anyone within about 600 km, which reaches Seattle and Portland), then Canada (or anyone within about 2,500 km), then the world.
People see that you're in British Columbia, or your city if you choose to show it. Never your neighbourhood or street.
Spin the globe
The globe on the home page lights up a gold dot for every area with somebody online. Tap the dot over the West Coast to ask somebody there to chat. They can say Join or Not now.
Text or voice
Type, or tap Voice to talk out loud. A call only starts when you both tap it, and nothing is recorded. If you click with somebody, you both tap Save and can message each other later.

Best time to chat
Chat hour is every night at 9 pm Eastern, which is 6 pm in Vancouver: that’s when the most people are on. If nobody is free, Sunny, our AI, keeps you company until a real person turns up. Sunny is always labelled as an AI.
